The Soapbox
This is what ended up being my piece for the first ever (packed!) show at The Soapbox.
Going with the same idea of using tape to lift particles, I made a lint colorfield. My work has been very black and white lately and I wanted to change that.

As of Late
It is a nice crisp day. 51 degrees, bright and sunny. The trees are turning. Pretty great.
Lately, I've been drawing at my desk next to Betty and it feels like old times at school.
I had an idea for another one of my salt drawings. I may do the installation at the Falls and Landings show that Casey invited me to at the Soapbox. I haven't been using pigments because I live with two great cats I wouldn't want to get sick, so I haven't decided.

Here is the mischievous little Coco.

Drawing
I started this drawing when I was in between projects at school. I had to keep pushing it aside, but have finally been able to focus on finishing it.
Drawing almost done.
I have also found a way to better sketch out future projects. This drawing turned into one of my horsehair embroideries that is actually in a show right now at the Plastics Club.
Along with the work I did in school. I kept a sketchbook for every semester. I had only two rules for them. 1. I must be done in about three months. 2. I must not waste space. I filled each one with ideas for projects, things I found on the street, notes written to me etc etc etc.
With so much going on during the last semester I broke my first rule. But I finally finished!
collage. pictionary drawing from when I was in haystack and cd cover my friend Diana gave me

Drawiiinngs, or How I Start.
Drawing is the backbone of the my work. True, I like to play and not plan anything out but sometimes I do plan, I just happen to ditch my plan for something else that I discover.
I make myself fill up a sketchbook within three months. These are drawings I have in my recent sketchbook.
I started to think about different things I do everyday that are ritualistic and came up with preparing a cup of tea. The drawing on the right is how I planned on how to set up after I shredded everything. The left are just notes from classes or random conversations. Oh, and also Lost....
Sometimes, I don't know what to draw, so I go with drawing lots of circles or lines.
Here is a test of the 60 colors from the salt gradation.
I'm working on turning a chair into powder now. The right is how I started off thinking about it. The left is a sketch of what it has become and discoveries along the way. As much as I like to not plot out every move, this chair has made me plan and replan over and over in order to keep the integrity of the structure. It has been fun, just different.

And just because why not, a studio shot.
