Some news

I got kinda busy but now things are starting to settle back down.

I don't have any work to share yet, since I'm still trying to unpack my studio, but I have some news regardless.

More to come.

Oh and for things I'm thinking about and looking at there is my tumblr.
titled after one of my favorite movies ever Dumb and Dumber.

hm

So, I have ideas, and I have to choose for a show. But I'm having a hard time picking one. I have to pick soon, because the show is in April or just come up with something completely different. Times like these I miss having a proper studio because I would just do them all and pick the one I liked the best. One day I'll be able to have a grown up studio.

Lately, part 2

I've been playing around with ink a lot. Sticking to a small format and just black makes it super easy because there is less to choose.Besides that I've been applying to all sorts of jobs, some residencies, I'll be at the second show at the soapbox, at the expo and perhaps another show about fibers. Also, I guess I should mention here, that I now have a website

The last image is a work in progress for the show at The Soapbox.

Korea

I was going to install this in Korea, but I changed my mind when i found out i couldn't go and wanted to give my classmates something easier to deal with.

The version of this that was installed in Korea was a 12x12 layout.

Also

I found a friend sitting in a nook in a tree (his little paw!) in DC and saw some ok things but also some really great things at the Corcoran and the Hirshhorn last week.

And lately, I've been staring at the light coming through this weaving I did sophomore year? I think?

Working on Progress

I was working on this as a kinda a response, but I needed a break from it. I hope to finish it soon.

Here is a little friend who I take breaks with napping. After learning how rats dream, I wonder what she's dreaming because she twitches an awful lot.

Samples.

These are samples I've collected for drawings such as the one that I did for part of the collaboration I have going on with Diana. I'm having a lot of fun so far and I can't wait to see what she does next.

The Soapbox

This is what ended up being my piece for the first ever (packed!) show at The Soapbox

Going with the same idea of using tape to lift particles, I made a lint colorfield. My work has been very black and white lately and I wanted to change that.

As of Late

It is a nice crisp day. 51 degrees, bright and sunny. The trees are turning. Pretty great.

Lately, I've been drawing at my desk next to Betty and it feels like old times at school.

I had an idea for another one of my salt drawings. I may do the installation at the Falls and Landings show that Casey invited me to at the Soapbox. I haven't been using pigments because I live with two great cats I wouldn't want to get sick, so I haven't decided.
Here is the mischievous little Coco.

Drawing

I started this drawing when I was in between projects at school. I had to keep pushing it aside, but have finally been able to focus on finishing it.

Detail

Drawing almost done.

I have also found a way to better sketch out future projects. This drawing turned into one of my horsehair embroideries that is actually in a show right now at the Plastics Club.

Along with the work I did in school. I kept a sketchbook for every semester. I had only two rules for them. 1. I must be done in about three months. 2. I must not waste space. I filled each one with ideas for projects, things I found on the street, notes written to me etc etc etc.

With so much going on during the last semester I broke my first rule. But I finally finished!

School is almost done....

shredded disposable cup, lid, cardboard heat insulator, tea packet, tea bag, tea, sugar packet, sugar, straw

The chair, finally finished was part of my senior show. Which, p.s. was really fun and pretty stress free seeing as how everyone was in such a great mood. I will miss my classmates a lot but am also super duper excited about the things they will get into once we leave school.
